Makro identified a potential risk of falling when loading bay doors were left open without a trailer, under UK legislation then then had to take steps to protect their staff against this risk. Loading Bay Barrier nets from EuroNet provided them with a simple and cost effective solution.

The Problem

Macro were concerned over safety to their staff and visitors when working close to the loading bays, there is a potential that with the doors open a person could fall off the loading platform.

The Solution

To supply a number of Door blockades per site that can are supplied with anchorage rings that can be fitted to the frame of the doorway.

The net can then be quickly and easily fitted to the anchorage rings and adjusted to suit, offering a physical barrier to avoid accidentally falling off the loading bay edge.
Again the nets are easily removed and stored ready for re-use.

Summary

The Door blockade also offers a quick and easy solution to the problem, the ease of installation encourages the employees to use the item.

A quick and easy solution.

Arco were experience regular issues with goods falling between adjancent racks and either lodging between them or hitting and/or blocking sprinkler vents, or even falling to the floor. EuroNets provided a back of rack netting solution which prevented goods falling and kept them firmly on the racks where they belong.

The Problem

Goods were falling regularly between two opposing racks either lodging between them or hitting and/or blocking sprinkler vents, or even falling to the floor.

This either caused damage to the goods or the packaging or to the sprinkler system causing concern with the clients insurance company.

At regular intervals operations were suspended at great cost to the client whilst a number of team members where employed to remove the goods, the cost in man hours and lost operations were sizeable.

The Solution

To install a series of nets between the parallel racks secured to a post and cable system but also fastened direct to the rear of the racking at various levels.

Works were carried out over a five month period during evening shifts.

Summary

The system has already proved effective at stopping goods falling and should result in an annual cost saving even in the first year of purchase.

Great Bear planned a reconfiguration of their warehouse to provide more picking locations and needed netting installed to protect their workforce from possible falling cartons in narrow aisle picking area. EuroNets helped Great Bear Distribution create a safe working environment for staff, better utilisation of space, more picking locations.

The Problem

In the run up to the 2010 World Cup, Great Bear decided to reconfiguration their Deeside warehouse to provide more picking locations their client, a major supplier of sports clothing.

The reconfiguration meant that staff would be working in aisles directly underneath full height racks loaded with pallets, this presented an unacceptable risk of injury from falling objects.

Great Bear this was unacceptable and they had to find a way of protecting against this risk.

The Solution

EuroNets provided a solution with their vertical rack netting. The netting was installed where ever a single run of racking backed onto an aisle which would be used for hand picking.

The nets would prevent and pallets, boxes or individual items fall from the racks on to people below in the narrow aisle picking area.

Summary

After EuroNets had completed this project, Great Bear were able to provide a safe working environment for there staff, better utilisation of space in their warehouse, more picking locations for what is likely to be one of their busiest periods.

Great Bear formally thanked EuroNets for their ‘Sound advice, competitive prices and the overall good experience of working together’.

Because each Makro has a combined storage/selling area this means that extra precautions need to be taken to prevent the loading of products onto racks from taking place in an area open to pedestrians. The answer was the EuroNets Aisle Barrier Net which prevents access to both the aisles being work in and the adjacent aisles.

The Problem

Makro were concerned over for the safety of the public, and their own employees, whilst moving pallets of stock around the store at the same time as allowing access to Customers.

Prior to contacting EuroNets, the safety procedure involved four additional staff, one stood at each end of the aisle being worked in, and the adjacent aisle, to stop anyone entering. The downside of this method of working was the sheer cost of paying four people to do nothing but stand around at the end of aisles.

For Makro it was a simple commercial decision to look at alternative solutions which would release the time of these four employees (per store) to be used else where in the businesses.

The Solution

EuroNets designed a solution using their unique Aisle Barrier Nets which meant that a single person could, quickly and easily, prevent access to the areas of danger.

Each net was supplied with four hooks allowing it to be easily and quickly attached to the racking uprights at the ends of the aisles, offering a physical barrier preventing entry.

Fitted with bold ‘No Entry’ signs the Aisle Barriers offer a very visual and physical barrier to stop the public entering the area.

The nets are easily removed and stored ready for re-use.

Summary

The Aisle Barriers have proved to be the perfect solution for Makro. They have not only improving safety in the business but also greatly reducing man-hour and therefore the costs of moving stock around the stores.

After trialing the solution in a small number of stores, Makro have now rolled out the EuroNets Aisle Barrers throughout all its stores nationwide.

Sports Direct wanted to reconfigure their Mansfield warehouse to create a great area for hand picking of sports goods to service internet orders and stock required by the groups high street shops. They ask EuroNets to provide a overhead and side wall Rack Netting system down to aisles to protect works from the potential of falling objects.

The Problem

Sports Direct is a fast moving business which is always trying new ways of working to boost sales. Often these changes to the front end sales and marketing also need changes to the product supply chain.

One such change boosted Internet Sales to such an extent that Sports Direct required a greater area for picking of individual items.

Sports Direct took the decision to create two new picking aisles by moving existing racking to create a low level picking area, unfortunatly these created a risk of products falling on employees from racks above.

The Solution

Sports Direct ask EuroNets for a solution to their problem. EuroNets were able to install two long systems spanning overhead across the aisle with vertical return to form a channel effect netting system.

Netting was fixed to galvanised cables spanning along the racks attached to specially designed posts bolted to the racking uprights to provide a secure anchor for the protection system.

The system was tested by dropping boxes from different levels and ensuring that the netting systems captured the falling box and protected the employees below.

Summary

The EuroNets system has been proven (during drop tests) to provide an effective barrier and catch system to falling goods from hitting person working in the aisles below.

As secondary benefit is that the netting provides a low impact catch system which means that falling boxes are caught with far less chance of damage to the products contained within.

EuroNets have helped Sports Direct solve a particular problem but they have also given them the confidence that they can plan further projects, safe in the knowledge that EuroNets will be there to provide a safe solution for any warehouse reconfigurations which are needed to grow the business in the future.

Our client on this project is a major supplier to the catering industry in the North East of England. They had identified a risk of contamination of food stuff by birds which were entring the warehouse. The answer was the installation of a pest control netting system to enclose a food storage area within the main warehouse.

The Problem

An area of our clients warehouse is dedicated to food storage, many of these food items are contained in cardboard packaging which could easily be torn open by the birds that enter the building through open doors or ventilation panels.

This presented a major danger as the food products could become contaminated by the birds, at best this would lead to the products having to be destroyed and at worse to members of the public become ill.

The client needed a totally enclosed area that would not allow birds or mammals to get to the products. The system had to be fitted tight to the walls, floors and the soffit of the warehouse, running between two adjacent racks and then across to the ends of the racks to the building internal wall.

The Solution

The client researched the market before asking EuroNets to design a netting solution to provide a solution the the problem they had identified. EuroNets supplied and install a special pest control net that could be fitted between the two adjacent racks and across the ends. Netting panels were fixed to cable support assemblies at high level and rigid channel section to the floor and walls. Netting also fixed to the soffit beams to ensure a fully enclosed environment was formed.

As on most projects, the installation had to take place in a fully operational warehouse and the EuroNets team had to work in a way as to minimise the disruption to the day to day operations of the clients business.

Summary

The client now has a secure area that is safe from birds and mammals from entering, what was previously an open area, this will now eliminate a major cost of stock lost due to damage by birds.

In reality this project provides a significant advantage to the business as follows:-

Reduction in cost of damaged stock

No cost of stock disposal

No need to check stock for signs of damage

Reduced stock levels

No risk to public from contaminated stock

More efficient use of the warehouse

The combination of the reduction in direct costs and the improve efficiency means that the costs of implementing this netting project will be recovered in a matter of months.
